The 996 Turbo S was the last ever Turbo S with a 6-speed manual gearbox. All future Turbo S cars were built with PDK transmission. This was also the last Turbo S with the legendary “Mezger motor.” Mezger engines are phenomenal and share the same DNA as the GT1.
There were approximately 963 Turbo S cabriolets built for the 996 platform. It's an exceptionally rare car.
This 996 Turbo S is more rare. It's a RUF RTurbo S. The car was upgraded to a RUF RTurbo S on March 28, 2006 by RUF Auto Centre in Dallas (now known as RAC Performance). This upgrade was done by certified RUF technicians when the car had 2,065 miles on it. This was a $29,950 modification.
The standard Turbo S had 444 hp. This one is 550 hp with carbon ceramic brakes!
The car has loads of exclusive options.
Black full leather
Black “Turbo S” badging mats
Heated seats
Lumbar support on right and left front seats
Supple leather on all seats
Leather package
Sport shifter
Porsche crest on the headrest
Carbon ceramic brakes
Stainless steel exhaust pipes
The car also has a RUF exhaust installed. It's one of the best OEM+ mods for this car. There are no drone sounds when idle and it sounds as good as a naturally aspirated Mezger motor (if not better).
The first owner purchased the car on 12/30/2004 and upgraded it to RUF RTurbo S in 2006. The car was originally bought in Florida and serviced at Braman Motorcars (Porsche specialists) in West Palm Beach, FL. The original owner sold the car with 4,728 miles on it. The carfax will show owner's 1-2, but it was the same person who owned the car.
The car was sold in Texas through Park Place Porsche in the Dallas area. When sold, the car had a warranty (as displayed by paperwork in the service records). The engine warranty was not voided with the RUF upgrade at the time. The car was also a certified pre-owned vehicle and went through a 100+ point inspection. The second owner was a custodian of the car for 13 months and added 2,164 miles to it.
The third owner acquired the car on 6/26/2009 in Austin, TX. He's a Porsche enthusiast who owned the car from 2009 until 2023 (14 years of ownership). Throughout his ownership, the car was serviced at reputable Porsche shops. We have a binder full of service records, starting with Roger Beasley Porsche and later cared for by GT International (local Austin Porsche specialists). On 01/05/2015, carfax reported a small cosmetic damage. The VIN# is marked private to prevent privacy. VIN available upon request.
The car was purchased by the current owner on 04/27/2023. The current owner is a Porsche enthusiast, PCA member and has owned many 911s. He has spent over $18,000 last year in tasteful mods and upgrades.
Some of the key upgrades include:
Techart springs (Part #: 996 200 130 009)
Titanium wheel stud set
20mm Rennline spacers (Part #: LS-10)
Installed brand-new tires. The warranty is transferable
Installed PCCM for Apple and Android carplay
Front upper strut mounts (Part #: 996 343 016 04)
Replaced headlight washer nozzle
Restored the headlights (they look brand new)
Installed a brand new shifter knob
Total cost to do the work was $8,895.68.
The car also underwent a full paint correction, ceramic coating, full tint and the entire front end of the car is PPF'd ($4,000+ in value).
Brand new tires (Michelin Pilot Sports) were installed on the car in May 2023. The tires are in like-new condition ($1,800).
The car recently had alignment done at Porsche Mckinney and then went through its annual service at RAC Performance in the Dallas area last week (April 2024) to prepare it for sale ($1,100). Fun fact: the car was serviced by the same technician who helped upgrade it back in 2006! It was a delight for him to see the car.
Spring season is here, so this is a great example of an excellent driver's car. It's only a matter of time until the Porsche community jumps on the 996 train, and the value of these cars will rise faster than we can imagine.
We're excited about listing this car. It's an honest car that's a perfect driver. Be it a daily commute to the office or finding your back roads on a Sunday morning.
